The members of the Presidential Guards Brigade, held a special birthday parade to mark President Muhammadu Buhari’s birthday who officially turned 74 years on Saturday.
The event, which was low-key took place hat the fore court of the Presidential Villa shortly before President Buhari left for Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.
The venue was also used for the meeting of the leaders of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), called to resolve the ongoing leadership impasse in The Gambia by urging President Yahya Jammeh, to respect the outcome of December 1 polls.
Part of the ceremony marking the birthday event saw the President cutting his birthday cake and releasing 74 pigeons, with three ministers, service chiefs and a handful of presidential aides in attendance.
Meanwhile, the hallmark of event came at the end of the parade, when presidential aides presented Buhari with a giant birthday card that has the seal of the president and his portrait on the cover, and with the inscription; ‘Happy Birthday’.
This was followed with another birthday card presented to the President by the Information minister, Mr. Lai Mohammed.
Expressing his appreciation, an elated Buhari, signed the birthday anniversary register with: “Impressed, efficient drill”.
Speaking with State House correspondents, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gabriel Olonisakin, send his wishes to the President.
“We are celebrating the birthday of the President and we wish him well and good health. We wish him all the goodness of God as he pilots the affairs of our nation to greater heights,”Olonisakin said.
In the same vein, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai, said that the President “is a great man and we are very pleased with his accomplishments over the years. He is a good leader.”
The ministers in attendance apart from that of Information, Culture and Tourism, are: Defence, Mansur Muhammad Dan-Ali and Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mohammed Musa Bello, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.
Also, the presidential aides who made it at the birthday parade were, the Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari; Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina; Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Diaspora, Abike Dabiri, and the Permanent Secretary, State House, Jalal Arabi, among others.
