The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Abubakar Sadique, has tasked newly commissioned cadet officers of the Department of State Services, DSS, to sustain the achievement recorded by the security forces in curtailing and neutralizing the threat of Boko Haram sect in the North-East and other troubled zones of the country.
Speaking at the passing-out parade of 487 cadets of the cadet officer basic course 29/2016/17 in Lagos, Sadique said the threats posed by the insurgents had not only challenged the collective will of security agencies but had also impacted heavily on the human capital and other resources of the nation.
He said that although a great deal had been achieved by security forces in neutralizing the threats, much still needed to be done.
Also speaking at the event, the Director General, Department of State Services, DSS, Lawal Daura, explained that the nine months rigorous training undergone by the officers, which encompassed academic activities, insurgency/counter insurgency, intelligence operations and gathering, firearms drills and physical training exercises, was to prepare them for the task ahead.
‘’This is where your expertise and energy as newly commissioned officers will be required to further ensure that peace returns to the north-east and other troubled zones in the country,” he said.
He urged the officers to be level-headed, amendable to discipline and ready to learn the practical aspects of the job, cautioned that impatience, acts of irresponsibility, greed, materialism and indiscipline would only truncate their career or at the best leave them half-baked and unfit to reach their peak.
