The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Capital Oil & Gas, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, has regained his freedom after about six weeks in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Even though the circumstances of his release was sketchy, but those close to the oil and has mogul confirmed that he was freed unconditionally.
“My people, the unconditional release of my brother and my friend, our brother and our friend Chief Dr Ifeanyi Ubah says a lot about the individual and I want to thank all that stood by him in every way possible. Ifeanyi is healthy and bouncing in the Lord,” a friend announced to Global Sentinel.
Ubah was arrested and detained by DSS on May 5, 2017 and has remained in their custody despite Court order for his release.
The DSS claimed to have detained the business man turned politician “sequel to his engagement in acts of economic sabotage which include stealing, diversion and illegal sale of petroleum products stored in his tank farm (in Lagos) by the NNPC. So, far, it has been established that the products stolen amount to over Eleven Billion Naira (N11bn).”
Ubah has however denied all the charges with a 30-point rebuttal and initially secured bail in court but he was not released.
His continued detention sparked public outcry, with frontline right groups such as the Int’l Society for Civil Liberties & the Rule of Law (Intersociety) demanding that he be released or charged to court.
