The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar has underscored the relevance of science, technology and innovation for effective and efficient operation of the Nigerian Air Force in modern day military operations.
He spoke on Wednesday at a lecture organized for Senior Executive 39 of the Institute by the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru (near Jos), on the topic, “Impact of Research and Development on Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Operations: The Journey So Far.”
The CAS highlighted how the NAF has been effectively using a combination of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), in collaboration with members of the Nigerian academia and other relevant local companies, to improve NAF operational efficiency.
A press release obtained from the office of the Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force, said that the Air Marshal in line with the aspirations of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government Administration believe in indigenous technology and philosophy of using what we make, and making what we use.
The Chief of Air Staff, according to the press release was said to have upon his appointment, announced his vision of repositioning the NAF into a highly professional and disciplined force through two key drivers of “strategic partnership with Ministries, Departments and Agencies for enhanced Research and Development” and “Reinforce a culture of self-reliance and prudent management of resources.”
The Force, was also said to have recorded a number of feats towards attaining the vision of the CAS via those two key drivers and some successful Research and Development projects.
