ESSO exploration funds study of Sciences in Kogi schools

The ESSO Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited (EEPNL), an affiliate of ExxonMobil in production sharing contract with NNPC and Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCO) , recently handed over a fully equipped Biology Laboratory to Government Science School, Kotonkarfe, Kogi State, working in partnership with Adolescent Action Pact (AAP).

Under the project, EEPNL funded the reconstruction, refurbishment, and supply of state of the art biology equipment to the school in order to create an enabling environment for the study of Biology.

The Government & Business Relations Manager, Nigel Cookey-Gam on Thursday said “ EEPNL has demonstrated its unwavering commitment towards the support of the study of sciences in secondary schools with this project in Government Science School Kotonkarfe, Kogi State.

 “This initiative by EEPNL has continuously formed part of EEPNL’s corporate citizenship outreach and epitomizes the range of significant social investments in Nigeria, especially in support of education.

 “EEPNL, in making this commendable investment, expects that the venture will both enhance the quality of teaching of biology as well as the outcome of the external examinations in Government Science School Kotonkarfe”.

According to Cookey-Gam, the project cost over Four Million Naira (N4 million)  and covers the reconstruction and refurbishing of the internal environment of the biology laboratory, as well as procurement and installation of essential equipment such as klinostat, human development models, microscopes, island benches, baby-in-utero models etc.

Also speaking on the initiative,  the Field Coordinator of AAP, Mr. John Ocholi,  commended the EEPNL on its consistent efforts to improve the study of sciences in secondary schools.

Ocholi expressed the hope that all stakeholders will be engaged to ensure that the biology laboratory is used and maintained in such a way as to contribute positively towards raising the standards of science study in the school.

 He hoped that governments and other corporate organizations will devote consistent efforts like EEPNL has done over the years towards supporting the study of science in schools. 

He said that ExxonMobil affiliates in Nigeria commit millions of dollars annually to sustainable, long-term development initiatives in the country.

 “Through partnerships with local and international non-governmental organizations, the affiliates invest in citizenship initiatives that positively affect the lives of thousands of Nigerians. About Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited, an affiliate of ExxonMobil, is one of the largest deep-water oil explorers in Nigeria,” he stated.
