The Police on Thursday paraded Desmond Okotubo, member of late Don Wanny kidnap gang that terrorised Omoku area of River State.
Okotubo, a 32 years old native of Egbema, Unelga Local Government area of River State was apprehended on Tuesday at Mpape area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja after he escaped arrest in an encounter with security agents during which Don’t Wanny, the gang leader was killed.
According to the Force PRO, CSP Moshhod Jimoh, while parading the criminal at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Okotubo confessed to be one of the masterminds of the gang and actively participated in the killing of innocent people on the new year eve in Omoku while he also gave a vivid account of how the dastard act was planned in Awara town in Imo State.
He said 30 members of the gang armed with 20 AK47 rifles carried out the operation in Omoku after being briefed by the late Don’t Wanny.
The Force spokesperson said the Inspector Genrral of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris who was concerned by the gruesome murder of Innocent people set-up special Police joint investigation team, comprising the IGP-Intelligence Response Team, the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, Force Department of Operations and the Rivers State Police Command to immediately unravel those behind the killings and bring them to Justice.
“The IGP-Intelligence Response Team attached to the Joint Police Special Investigation Team engaged some of the suspects in their hideouts in Awara Forest boundary between Imo and Rivers State, the shoot out lasting several hours resulted in the death of six (6) of the suspects while others escaped with bullet wound injury to other locations in Rivers, Delta, Imo and Bayelsa States and the Police Teams are currently on their trail.

” The renewed commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to guarantee adequate protection of lives and property across the country remains unequivocal and unwavering.
He said the suspect will be arraigned in court on completion of investigation.
