One person has been reportedly killed with several others injured as anti-riots squad of the Nigerian Police Force engaged the protesting members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) also known as Shiites Islamic Sect in parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The Shiites have been on sit out protest for over 40 days over the incarceration of their leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky since December 2015.
However, things took turn for the worse on Friday, April 13, 2018 when the IMN members besieged the FCT choking movement of people and vehicles.
Alarmed, the government on Monday drafted the anti-riot squad who tried to forceful disperse the enraged sect members leading to reported death of one with several others injured.
The trending information obtained by Global Sentinel states: “There are protests on Ibrahim Babangida Way, Farmers Market, Exclusive Stores and Paniel Apartment, NCC, Transcorp Hilton area all in Maitama District at the moment by members of Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN).
“IMN were denied access to Unity Fountain this morning, this is where they usually converge every morning to stage a procession to Three Arms Zone. There are reports of confrontations with the security forces and this led to massive protest being witnessed since about 1030 hours.”
“Security Forces had engaged them and gunshot have been heard. There are also reports that some of the protesters have been killed and some police officers wounded in the process. All staff are still advised to stay wherever they are for now. Telephone tree has been activated.”
