•Troops kill 23 terrorists , recover weapons
The Nigerian military has once again predicted that Boko Haram terrorists’ days are numbered with the ongoing Operation Last Hold in the Lake Chad Region of the North East part of the country.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Maj-Gen. Stevenson Olabanji, gave this verdict on Wednesday while addressing troops at Gubio and Damasak area of Borno State, respectively.
Olabanji in a statement by the Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), Brig-Gen. Texas Chukwu, said the troops of operation Lafiya Dole, also used the opportunity to urged the troops be committed and steadfast during the final onslaught against Boko Haram terrorists .
He stated that “the end has come for the terrorists in northern Borno state”, adding that “operation Las Hold was designed to end the activities of the insurgents in the enclaves and islands of Lake Chad region”.
He further advised the troops to be courageous and discipline during the final assault on the insurgents’ enclaves.
Similarly, the GOC also visited the 2 Division Task Force Brigade of Operation Last Hold in Zarre where he was received by the Commander, Brigadier General Aliyu Abdullahi.
In a related development, Chukwu stated that the troops of 153 Task Force Battalion in conjunction with elements of Cameroonian Defence Forces while on clearance operation on June 11, 2018, encountered and killed 23 Boko Haram terrorists.
“23 of the terrorists were neutralized and several others wounded during the encounter,” he said.
The Army Spokesman listed the items recovered to include: Six AK 47 rifles, two FN rifles, eight AK 47 rifle magazines, 33 rounds of 7.62 mm NATO ammunition, one link of 7.62mm NATO, and wo motorcycles.
He said troops had earlier cleared numerous villages in the Lake Chad region including Bulakeisa, Tumbuma Babba, Abbaganaram and Dan Baurep, among others.
Chukwu advised the public to report any suspicious activities or movements to the law enforcement agents at all times.
