Hoodlums on Wednesday attacked patent medicine dealers in the Emuhu community, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State again, carting away drugs worth N10 million and shooting two persons.
it was gathered that the armed hoodlums in the early hours stormed the community in a Peagout 504 car without a plate number, and started shooting into the air to scare passersby.
The police spokesman in the state, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, who confirmed the incident in Asaba, said: “the hoodlums left with drugs at the various patent medicines stores they operated, shot two persons who have been taken to the hospital, we are investigating the operation, but no arrest has been made.”
Sources said it was the third time that the hoodlums will be operating in the community unhindered.
One of the victims, Abejegah Senior said: “the hoodlums visited my store, they made away with drugs worth of N150, 000. They shot my boy on the leg, despite pleading with them, they raided other stores in the community, we called the police but nobody answered us”.
It was however gathered that the police in Umunede swiftly moved into Emuhu community during the distress call, but when they arrived the hoodlums had fled the community with bags of drugs.
Another Eyewitness, Jacob Ifeanyi, said: “the police in Umunede community did not respond on time, and the hoodlums operated successfully. We are calling on security agents to come to our aid, we don’t have drugs to sell again.
Investigation revealed that hoodlums last weekend visited Alifikede community near Effurun community where they robbed virtually everybody on sight, and allegedly shot one dead.
But in a swift reaction, the Police Commissioner in the state, Mr. Muhammed Mustafa said nobody was killed, confirming however that there was robbery incident in the community.
He said: “there was robbery incident in Alifikede community, nobody was killed, we are on the trail of the hoodlums, and we will bring them to book soon.”
