Nigerian troops kill four Boko Haram terrorists in failed ambush

GOC lauds troops’ readiness in Delwa

The troops of 81 Division Task Force Battalion deployed in Operation Lafiya Dole to conduct Counter terrorism and Counter insurgency operations in North Eastern Nigeria had on Tuesday,  August 28,  2018, killed three Boko Haram insurgents in a failed ambush staged by the insurgents along Gulumba Gana – Masa – Dikwa road in Dikwa Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno state, Northeast Nigeria.

Theatre Command Operation Lafiya Dole, Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement on Wednesday, said that shortly before the ambush,  the troops who were on a fighting patrol had uncovered  two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) buried in the ground along the road by the terrorists.

Nwachukwu said that while the troops carried out counter IED actions to disarm the explosives, the insurgents sprang the ambush but met with fierce resistance by the troops, who swiftly countered the ambush, killing three of the insurgents, while others fled with gunshot wounds. He said the troops also captured two AK 47 rifles,  one Light Machine Gun and an empty magazine from the terrorists.

 

According to him, one of the troops who unfortunately sustained injury during the encounter is currently receiving medical attention in our medical facility.

 

“In a separate operation, also conducted on Tuesday, troops of 3 Battalion, successfully staged an ambush against Boko Haram insurgents traversing a crossing point behind Ngala town, in Borno state. The troops neutralised one Boko Haram insurgent and recovered one AK 47 rifle and seven rounds of 7.62 MM ammunition during the ambush.

 

“Following the escape of some insurgents with gunshot wounds during encounters with troops, members of the public are please enjoined to report persons with gunshot wounds seeking medical attention to security agencies,” he stated.

In a related development, the troops of Operation Lafiya Dole deployed in Delwa Borno State, have  been applauded for their state of  combat readiness in the fight against terrorism.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Brig-Gen. Abdulmalik Bulama Biu, gave the commendation on Monday, August 27, 2018 during his routine operational visit to Echo Company of 192 Battalion location stationed in Delwa, Konduga Local Government Area of the State.

Bui in a statement on Wednesday by the Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), Brig-Gen. Texas Chukwu,  applauded the unit combat preparedness after inspecting the Company’s location and urged the troops to make effective use of the arsenal at their disposal to inflict maximum causality on the insurgents.

 He also urged the troops to be mutually supportive and compliment each other’s effort while trying to achieve their collective goal.

5. Earlier on arrival, the GOC was received by the Officer Commanding Echo Company Captain Shammah Chong, who conducted him and his entourage round the location.

He was accompanied during the routine visit by the Chief of Staff, 47 Engineers Brigade, Colonel Emmanuel Oyewole, Deputy Chief of Staff Operations, Colonel Oluremi Obolo, Commander, 107 Division Equipment Support, Colonel Babatunde Alaya, among others.
