•Says Nigerian Army in full control
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has declared the decisive defeat of Boko Haram at the battle of Damasak, Borno State in North East Nigeria as “the turning point” in the ongoing counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations.
Buratai in his Facebook updates on Saturday, said he is “leaving Maiduguri after a week of fruitful adventure round Northern Borno”.
“Congratulations Mr President, Commander-in-Chief, Muhammadu Buhari. Congratulations our gallant troops of Operation Lafiya Dole. Congratulations Nigerian Armed Forces. Congratulations to all Nigerians,” he said.
According to the Army Chief, great job was done by the troops of 145 Battalion in Damasak, adding that “the Boko Haram Terrorists suffered a decisive defeat on September 11, 2018”.
“This date marks the real turning point in our counter insurgency operation,” he declared.
In the battle of Damasak that raged for two days, the Nigerian ground troops with close air support routed the Boko Haram terrorists, killing many them and destroyed several of their vehicles and equipment.
The Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), Brig-Gen. Texas Chukwu, had in a statement on Wednesday confirmed that seven terrorists were killed with several of them wounded, while another senior officer revealed that about 50 of the terrorists were killed.

Following that battle, Buratai declared in his Facebook post: “the Nigerian Army is in full control of the Theatre of Operation.
“The criminal Boko Haram lick your wounds. Your sponsors, sympathisers and collaborators in the guise of social media journalists will all join you in licking. Bastards! Nigeria is greater than you all.
“Long Live Federal Republic of Nigeria!!!”
