•Neutralise several terrorists
Troops of the Nigerian Army has repelled Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) ambush along Maiduguri-Bama axis of Borno State, killing several of their fighters in the process.
Military sources at the theatre of operations in the North East informed Global Sentinel that the gun duel ensued following the ambush around 11 am Sunday morning
“Reports just reaching us confirmed that troops of 21 Brigade led by the Brigade Commander on a clearance patrol in support of Operation Rainbow were ambushed by BHT along Kanuri -Aulari Road at about 11 am 16 Sep 2018.
” There was serious exchange of gunfire. The gallant troops of 222 battalion were reportedly high on morale as a result of the just concluded assurance visit to the theatre of operation by the COAS Lt Gen TY Buratai and they successfully cleared the ambush and neutralized the terrorists,” the source told Global Sentinel.
Buratai had in his Facebook update on Saturday, declared that the military is now in full control of proceedings in northern part of Borno state following the decisive victory against the insurgents in Damasak.
According to the Army Chief, Damasak is “the turning point” in the ongoing efforts to halt the resurgent Boko Haram and ultimately root them out their safe havens.
But since then their has been unsuccessful attempts by terrorists to launch fresh attacks including the ones halted by the Army today and on Saturday along Gudumbali-Damasak axis.

Military sources said that apart from unconfirmed number of terrorists killed or wounded, the troops recovered one GPMG, two AK 47, Techno phone, N2,000 and several rounds of ammunition.
As at the time of filing this report, sources said troops were still exploiting the general areas in search of some BHT’s who escaped with gunshot wounds.
