The Director of Sports, Defence Headquarters, Abuja, Air Vice Marshal Dayo Adeluoye, has charged cadets of the 65 Regular Course (Army) and 66 Regular Course (Navy and Air Force) to put National Interest above all other consideration in the discharge of their duties as officers, upon their graduation from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).
Adelouye in a statement on Wednesday by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of NDA, Maj. Abubakar Abdullahi, was the Guest of Honour at the Prize Giving and Beating of Retreat ceremony ahead of the Passing out of the cadets on October 06, 2018.
He stressed the importance of National Interest reminded the cadets of their role of subordination to civil authority and the protection of the nation’s territorial integrity. He added that with the training the cadets received at the Academy, they are expected to be exemplary leaders in the future.
The Senior Officer encouraged the Cadets to be fair and firm in their dealings with their subordinates and to be prudent in the management of both human and material resources that would be placed under their care in the course of their career.
Speaking further, Adelouye called on the cadets to reciprocate the efforts of the Academy into moulding them to become future leaders of their national Armed Forces by putting in their best in all their responsibilities in future. He went further to applaud the efforts of the Nigerian Defence Academy for instilling a high level of discipline and skillfulness in her cadets through the high quality of training it provides them.
To Mogadishu Battalion, which emerged champions at the end of the 2018 Training Session, AVM Adeluoye charged them not to relent on their efforts in maintaining their top position but to strive harder to attain greater successes in the future. He further congratulated all cadets who won various awards and challenged those who didn’t do well to push harder and strive for perfecting in future events.
Prize Giving and Beating of the Retreat ceremony is an annual event which signifies the formal close of training activities at the Nigerian Defence Academy. It is characterized by the presentation of awards to cadets who have excelled in various training activities at the Academy during the year under review and the presentation of Champion’s Trophy to the cadets’ battalion that emerged overall winners after the results of all the training activities for the year has been compiled, and the Beating of The Retreat.
This year’s event saw presentation of awards to deserving cadets, presentation of Champion’s Trophy to Mogadishu Battalion, Unarmed Combat display by cadets, among other activities. The event was graced by dignitaries from the military and other sectors, as well as family friends and relations of graduating cadets.
