The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has confirmed the arrest of three suspects and recovery of N720,000 in connection with vote buying and selling in Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.
The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), DCP Jimoh Moshood, said the arrest was in compliance with the directive of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris.
He said its was consequent upon the deployment of Police Operatives from the Intelligence Unit of FCIID, IGP Monitoring Unit and the Intelligence Response Team of the Force to gather intelligence, arrest and prosecute anyone caught attempting or in the act of vote buying or selling.
“The Police team on election duty at Iwo LGA of Osun State today, 22 September, 2018 arrested two suspects in the act of vote buying and selling namely; Muriat Olalekan ‘M’ 61Yrs and Hamzat Muniru and the sum of N604,000.00 only was recovered from their possession,” he said.
In the same vein, the Police Spokesperson, said that a chieftain of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Adeagbo Wasiu, of ward 8 unit 9 Fiwasaye Area Osogbo was arrested for vote buying.
He said the suspect was searched and sum of 116,000 was recovered from him.
He said investigations into the cases are ongoing and suspects will be arraigned in court on completion of investigation.
