•Another successfully ejected
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed that one of its pilots died from the collision and crash of two its aircraft at Mpape, Abuja Friday morning.
This was announced by the Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI), Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola.
Daramola however, noted that one of the pilot successfully ejected from the aircraft.
“It is with a heavy heart that I regretfully announce that one of the pilots who successfully ejected from one of the F-7Ni aircraft that crashed earlier today has passed on. May his soul RIP. Additional details on the incident will be communicated later,” he stated.
The two jets collided while rehearsing for the October 1, Nigeria’s 58th Independent Anniversary Celebrations.
Daramola later informed that the burial of the deceased pilot from the air crash e comes up at 4.30pm on Friday at the National Military Cemetery Abuja.
NAF Spokesperson has earlier, confirmed “an air incident involving two Nigerian Air Force aircraft taking part in the rehearsals for the 58th Independence Day Celebrations”, where he noted that “no lives were lost” as at the time the statement was issued.
He said more details will be communicated later.
