Troops Arrests Gun Runner, recover weapons in Niger

Troops of Operation WHIRL PUNCH on Thursday intercepted a vehicle carrying weapons and arrested a “notorious” gun runner called Rabi’u Akilu, at the Garoji Army Check point in Bargu general area of New Bussa LGA of Niger state.

The Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Muhammad Dole said in a statement on Saturday.

According to the statement, the following items were discovered: a twenty one fabricated locally made single barrels, fifteen fabricated locally made barrels Ghana made, ten fabricated locally made pistols.

Others are , 343 Cartridge, one Toyota Corolla with registration number ZUR 416 DX KEBBI

Mr Akilu hails from Dangulbi village of Maru LGA of Zamfara state and is currently assisting security operatives in the investigation.

Dole therefore urged the public, especially motorists to cooperate with the troops during any stop and search operation and continue to volunteer information on the activities of the criminals in the society.

He assured that the troops under Operation WHIRL PUNCH will continue to ensure safety passage on the roads and major highways, as well as elimination of bandits, kidnappers and cattle rustlers in our Area of Operations. The pictures of the recovered items are hereby attached.
