The West Africa Network for Peacebuilding Nigeria (WANEP), a network organization on peace building has expressed it’s readiness to intensify peace building efforts in the North Central region of the country.
Speaking during the North-central Zonal Assembly in Abuja, the Zonal Analyst, Mr. Nathaniel Awuapila, noted with concern that WANEP at the north central zone has been inactive and have not done much in the Past 5 years.
According to Awuapila, the north central poor performance in peace building is as a result of the Iresponsiveness of the leaders at the zonal level and inadequate finances.
He therefore urged the government to embrace WANEP especially with regards to peace building mattars in the country
Meanwhile, the board representative, Hajiya Hassem Asmau Tani, said most members are money conscious and care less on peace building, hence money is spent on workshops rather than activities that would reduce conflict.
A representative of Sustainable Development for Vulnerable Women and Children Foundation (SWAC), Mr. Amos Uzua, recommended that attention and concern should be given to those children whose parents were killed by herdsmen, to avoid any form of future plan of revenge.
Asmau revealed that aside the Official visit to Tinkums clinic, WANEP in the North central region have been able to secured more membership. However, she urged women’s participation in the network activities.
She also opined that to improve WANEP effectiveness in peacebuilding at the north central region, proper analysis and assessment should taken on how herdsmen crises have been managed over the years.
The general assembly reviewed an assessment conducted by WANEP in 2014, which will be used for the implementation of action plan for the next coming year.
