A Non-Governmental Organisation, Global Peace and Life Rescue Initiative (GOPRI), has lauded the efforts of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen.Tukur Buratai,for improved civil-military relations in the country.
GOPRI said Buratai deserved the commendation for appointing Maj-Gen.US Mohammed, who it described as not only humble but also accessible and creative professional,as the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs.
To this end, the group called on the civil populace to accord the army high cooperation so as to achieve its constitutional assignment of securing the country.
GOPRI’s Executive Director, Amb. Melvin Ejeh, stated this on Tuesday in Jos, while addressing youths on the need to support security agencies, especially the military win the ongoing war against insurgence and other criminalities in the country.
The stated: “We are impressed with the current healthy relationship being enjoyed between the army and the civilian populace.
“This is surely the way to go in a democratic setting as it would enhance credible flow of information among soldiers and their host communities, thus leading to a reduction in crime.”
“Since the appointment of the current Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General TY Buratai, the Civil/ Military relationship has tremendously improved and it has even gotten better under the Current Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Major General US Mohammed.
“This is being made possible because of Mohammed’s humility, accessibilty, creativity, professionalism, passion and selfless service.
“We cannot afford a hostile army around the country in the country at this time,”he added.
While rating Mohammed high for his favourable disposition towards the civilian populace following what he called his humility, accessibility, creativity, professionalism, passion and selfless service.

He commend the Chief of Civil/ Military Affairs of the Nigeria Army, for the outstanding innovations, adding that Mohammed and his team had introduced in reaching out to the civil populace.
According to him,”this will no doubt restore and build confidence between the Army and the civil populace especially at a time some selfish politicians and sponsored groups are out just to discredit our army.”
Ejeh appealed to the youths not to allow themselves to be used by some people he described as “enemies of our country who are out there to strengthen terrorism and conflict by demoralizing our National Army using false news on the media.”
“We must be aware that we have no other country to run to.
He said his organization’s “appraisal of military affairs with the civilian populace in the country showed a growing confidence in the army.”
“We thank the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General TY Buratai for appointing such a professional officer and a gentleman. We hope that this renewed relationship will bring an end to misinterpretation of military operations around the country.he country.
“We therefore call on the Nigeria Army to carry out its Military/ civil interaction to all the six geopolitical zone of the country,” Ejeh stated.
