The Road Transport Emoloyers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has endorsed President Muhamnadu’s re-election bid and assured that it’s sixteen million members will vote for Buhari come February 16.
The Executive National President, RTEAN, Osakpamwan Eriyo gave the assurance at the launch of the first phase of 300 Mass Transit Support Scheme by the Federal Government. on Tuesday in Abuja.
He said the 300 fleet was the first batch of 6000 vehicles adding that the remains 5,700 will subsequently be launched every three months.
“Every three months we will be expecting 300 by batches and will be distributed to various states.” He said.
Eriyo, while appreciating the Federal Government for its support in acquiring the fleet of vehicles said all members of the association has agreed to support Buhari’s second term.
He said: “We have urged our members to support Buhari because he has done so much for the country and the Transport industry. As you can see today, we are investing on over 6000, we are commissioning the first batch of 300 today we have good road that is why we have decided to bring in new vehicles and we have decided that all our members will vote for continuity.
“We have over 16 million members, we are assuring the government that on that day, our members with their PVCs to declare support for President Muhamnadu Buhari to make sure that the president returns for the second term.
“We have agreed together and when we decide we all follow and that is why we are here today” he assured.
He also informed that with the government support, cost of transportation will be reduced.
He therefore urged his members to shun violence and maintain peace.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation( SGF), Boss Mustapha who commissioned the vehicles said with the commissioning ,RTEAN will be adding about 5000 direct and indirect jobs to the economy.
“This will no doubt improve will improve the Nigerian Road Transportation system tremendously and increase the road network as well.” He noted.
Mustapha who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, SGF, Olusegun Kayode, therefore urged RTEAN to introduce Information Communication Technology (ICT) into the transportation sector where commuters will be able to book their tickets online and are availed of a consistent timetable for routes covered by these vehicles.
He also urged the Association to continue to focus on evolving competitive and cost effective Mass Transit Scheme which is within the reach of the ordinary Nigerians.
