The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, said it has reached  a decision on whether to hold the election today.

Speaking at the end of an emergency meeting by the commission held in Abuja on Friday, Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Chief Press Secretary to INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, told journalists that the chairman will address them shortly.

INEC had summoned stakeholders to a meeting to discuss the logistics challenges.

Multiple sources said the postponement being considered is due to some logistics challenges being faced by the commission in many states.

The electoral body is facing difficulty distributing sensitive electoral materials to some states of the federation.

In some states, electoral materials had not been distributed as of 9pm, making some members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to allege that there is a deliberate plot to sabotage the exercise.

“It is unclear at this time what the new election date would be. There will definitely be a postponement but we are yet to take a decision on the new date,” an official said.
