The Nigeria Police Force said its operatives of operation Puff Adder has killed nine suspected members of a heavily armed notorious criminal gang at Akilbu forest, off Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.
The Force spokesperson, Frank Mba, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday said various degrees of arms and ammunition were recovered from the gang.
Mba explained that the recovery followed an exchange of gun fire between the police and members of the gang on April 10 which resulted in the death of nine of its members while two escaped with gunshot wounds.
The Force spokesperson however informed that one of the police operatives sustained gunshot wound and is presently receiving treatment in a hospital.
“Effort is being intensified to arrest the fleeing members of the gang.” Mba said.
According to Mba, the items recovered from the gang include: six Ak-47 Rifles;one Pump Action Gun; 1,206 rounds of Ak-47 ammunition; seven Magazines; 28 Cartridges and 158 expended shells.
Mba said the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has expressed satisfaction with the successes recorded so far in the fight against kidnapping and other heinous crimes across the country.
The IGP reiterated his call for support by the public to the Police and other sister agencies, as he gives the assurance that the war against armed bandits will soon be won.
