Troops of 32 Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army has arrested five suspected kidnappers and rescued five persons held hostage in Ondo state.
The Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 32 Artillery Brigade, Captain Victor Olukoya confirmed this a statement on Tuesday.
Olukoya revealed that the troops apprehended the suspects in the early hours of Tuesday morning at about 1:00 am during a raid operation it conducted on the kidnappers’ hideout at Jugbere village in Owo Local Governnent Area of Ondo State.
He noted that the arrest followed credible information of kidnap incident involving nine persons at Mr Godwin Ugu Integrated Agric Farm Owo.
He said: “The operation resulted in the arrest of five kidnappers and rescue of fuve hostages”
Olukoya however informed that Four other abductees escaped from the kidnappers’ den on arrival of troops.
He added that the rescued hostages and the arrested suspects, who had minor injuries have been taken to the Brigade Medical Centre for medical examination/treatment.
He also informed that the suspects will be handed over to the appropriate civil security agency at the conclusion of preliminary investigation.
Olukoya further revealed that the troops recovered one Dane gun, an Axe, two Cutlasses, eight Live cartridges, one Handset and three Ring charms from the criminals during the operation.
He said the 32 Brigade Nigerian Army has however reassured residents of Ekiti and Ondo States of the commitment and capability of the Brigade to ensure security of lives and property of law abiding citizens.
“To this end, the Commander Brigadier General ZL Abubakar has ordered for intense patrol in the states to assist in ensuring peace and security.
