•20 soldiers wounded, evacuated
•Captures equipment as Chadian CDS visits troops
The Mult-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in continuation of the ongoing Operation Yancin Tafki in the Lake Chad Area, has inflicted heavy casualties on the Boko Haram terrorists and killed 39 of their fighters.
The Chief of Military Public of MNJTF N’Djamena – Chad, Col. Timothy Antigha, in a statement on Wednesday the troops were able to repel the terrorists attacks but 20 soldiers were wounded in the process.
“The terrorists attacked troops position in Cross Kaura, however, the vigilant and gallant MNJTF and national troops overwhelmed the terrorists, killing 39 and capturing several equipment in the counter – attack,” he said.
Antigha also disclosed that the “20 soldiers who were wounded In Action have been airlifted out of the the area of operation and are receiving adequate medical attention.”
In the same vein, the Deputy Director Army Public Relations, Sector 3 Operation Lafiya Dole, Col. Ezindu Idimah, who confirmed the development in a statement explained the events of the battle.
Idimah said the troops of MNJTF Sector 2 (Chad) and Sector 3 (Nigeria) while on clearance operation in consonance with operation Yancin Tafki on Tuesday April 16, 2019, neutralized the 39 members of Boko Haram Terrorists in Cross Kauwa village in the Lake Chad Region.
He listed some items recovered from the insurgents including: two Gun Trucks, two Anti Aircraft Guns, nine AK47 Rifles, one HK21 Rifle, and four Rocket Propelled Guns.
Similarly, he said, the Chadian Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Tahir Erda paid a morale boosting visit to combined troops undergoing Operation Yancin Tafki in the frontline. He was received and briefed by the Land Component Commander of the Operation , Maj-Gen. Olufemi Akinjobi in Kinnasara Cantonment Monguno.
Addressing the troops, Erda called for more regional collaboration in ending the surge of insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin. He urged the troops to create a good relationship towards achieving the aim of the ongoing operation.
He also visited Sector 3 Hospital where he checked on some sick soldiers and toured the scene of the fire fight.
