President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Gambo Gumel Aliyu as the Director-General of National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA).
Aliyu takes over from the Sani Aliyu whose tenure runs until July 2020 but resigned as DG “to pursue other aspirations.”
This was announced by the Permanent Secretary General Services, Office of Secretary of the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Olusegun Adekunle.
Adekunle said the appointment is for an initial term of four years and takes effect from 26th of June, 2019.
The Head, Public Relations and Protocol, NACA, Toyin Aderibigbe confirmed the resignation and appointment of the new DG in statement on Tuesday.
Aderibigbe said the new DG is an Epidemiologist and a Public Health specialist who was the Chief of Party for the Nigeria Indicator and Impact Survey (NAIIS) until his appointment.
“He attended Ahmadu Bello University of Zaria, Nigeria, where he obtained Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1995, later proceeded to University of Maryland, to obtain PhD in Epidemiology in 2012”, she said.
