The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has expressed its determination towards ensuring decent accommodation and improving the welfare of its officers and men at the warfront so that the war against insurgency, banditry and other criminal activities will be won.
The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Sadiq Abubakar, stated this in his speech at the Regimental Dinner Night, organized by the Special Operations Command of the NAF, which held at the Airforce base in Bauchi at the weekend.
He noted that the dinner was an opportunity to unwind and celebrate the achievements of the Special Operations Command since it was established.
Abubakar said that in accordance with one of the key drivers of his vision for the NAF, “the service has embarked on aggressive infrastructural development project to provide better training facilities and decent living accommodation for improved welfare of personnel.”
According to him, the establishment of the Special Operations Command is to “improve the ability of the NAF to respond to emerging demands of the national security environment and also cover some of the capability gaps observed during NAF participation in counter insurgency operations.”
He added that the establishment of the Special Operations Command and other units under it has enabled the NAF to provide timely and efficient response to meet the demands of the evolving national security environment.
“The achievements made so far by this Command in various Internal Security operations especially by the Special Forces personnel are a testament to our vision to set up the Special Operations Command. Notwithstanding these achievements, I urge you not to rest on your oars in the efforts to secure the lives and properties of our fellow citizens.
“Indeed, the NAF is cognizant of the fact that with the right training and equipment as well as assurances that welfare needs of personnel are catered for, morale has remained high and the performances of our personnel in various ongoing IS operations have been commendable,” he stated.
He urged the Personnel to maintain the training facilities and other infrastructure that has been provided, such as the Commando Village, to enable them remain in top form and ready to face any security challenges that may arise as they have always done.
Abubakar promised that the Service will continue to support the training and retraining of personnel and sustain NAF’s focus on improving personnel welfare, especially for those in combat situations.
He said: “On our part, I want to assure you that we will continue to make efforts to attend to your welfare needs within available resources while I encourage you to continue to remain focused and vigilant in the discharge of your duties. You must also endeavor to remain within the ambit of the law and carry out your roles in line with the Rules of Engagement for the various Internal Security operations you are involved in.”
The Chief of Air Staff, said that the support provided by the Federal Government has no doubt positively impacted on the Nigerian Air Force especially in the areas of training, enhanced operational efficiency and improved provision of welfare and other services.
He assure the President of “our unalloyed loyalty and reiterate our commitment to continue to support the Federal Government in its policy thrust of providing security, improved economy and fighting corruption in our dear country.”
Speaking at the event, the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, pledged to provide a more conducive environment for Security Agencies working in the state.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Baba, the governor said the move is to enable them discharge their responsibilities effectively especially in protecting the lives and property of the citizens of the state.
He applauded the transformation’s agenda of the Chief of Air Staff, towards ensuring professionalism in the service in line with International best practices.
Mohammed expressed satisfaction with the performance and commitment of the personnel of the force on the ongoing operation against criminal activities in the country.
