The Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), acknowledged and known as Shi’ites has in their continued protest over the indefinite detention of their leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, invaded the National Assembly complex, attacking people and smashing cars in the process.
This violent actions, according to eyewitnesses, resulting in fiery exchanges with security operatives.
According to reports, the Shi’ites broke down the first gate and proceeded to the second, which serves as the main entrance to the complex.
Although the security operatives on ground repelled the protest with gunshots fired into the air to disperse the protesters.
The group is protesting the continued detention of Ibrahim Elzakzaky and his wife, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since December 2015 following the deadly clash between members of the IMN and CONVOY of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai.
The Shiites are currently burning some vehicles parked close to the gate while more security operatives are being deployed to assist others.
