Independence Day: Army urges Nigerians not to panic over firing of artillery guns

As Nigeria prepares to mark its 59th Independence Day Anniversary, the Guards Brigade, Nigerian Army has alerted Nigerians that there will be traditional firing of field artillery guns during the anniversary parade.

The Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Capt. Haruna Tagwai who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday urged Nigerians not to panic on hearing the firing of the weapons.

He informed that the anniversary parade is scheduled for 1st October at the Fore Court of the Presidential Villa Abuja.

The statement read in part, “As part of the ceremonial activities for the anniversary, there would also be traditional firing of Artillery Gun salute during the occasion.

“Members of the public especially those living within Asokoro, Maitama and its environs are hereby alerted and urged not to panic on hearing sound of firing of weapons during the aforementioned period.”
