The Department of State Services (DSS) has insisted that Omoleye Sowore, Convener of Revolution Now protest will not be released untill those who stood for him as surety in court comes for proper documentation.
The Spokesman of the Service, Dr. Peter Afunnya said this while addressing newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday.
Afunnya maintained that as a service, it has administrative procedures which must be followed despite the court order granting Sowore bail. But according to him the the process has not been followed and Sowore’s Lawyer Femi Falana has not showed up either.
He said, “The appropriate people did not show up with proper documentation for Sowore’s bail. We have explained the procedures that must be followed to the court.
“As a responsible security organization we cannot just release Sowore withiut due process being followed, we can’t just take him to the gate and release him, what if he gets hit by a car? and qe can’t release him to protesters. We will only release Sowore when the appropriate person shows up and the and proper procedures followed.
He added, ” proper documentation is imperative in the discharge of security duties and we stand on it, we insist on global best practices.”
Afunnya further denied using guns on the protesters saying that the service has a standard procedure on the use of arms and it’s has always followed such procedures.
The Spokesman further assured that the service will continue to protect the peaceful territorial intergrity of the country which is it’s core mandate as enshrined in the Constitution.
