COVID-19: Kano Frees 293 Prison Inmates on Eid-Fitr

The Governor of Kano State, Mr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has ordered the release of 293 inmates across the Custodial Centers in the state.

This follows the directives given by the Federal Government for the decongestion of Custodial Centers nation-wide due to the global pandamic,Covid-19.

This was disclosed in a statement by Musbahu Lawan K/nassarawa CPRO.

According to the statement, the decongestion is done in order to prevent the spread of the Virus among the inmates and staff of the organization.

At the Custodial Centers visit the governor urged the released inmates to be of good behavior in the society and to make good use of the opportunity given to them to engage in productive venture instead of crime.

He then gave the released inmates transport fare N5000 each for them to return to their various home. He also paid a fine and settled the compensation of nearly 12 million naira.

The Controller of Corrections Kano,Magaji Ahmed Abdullahi commended the preventive measures taken by the Controller General of Corrections Jafaru Ahmed in preventing the spread of the Corona Virus across the Custodial Centers nation-wide.

He further thanked the State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for the relentless support and cooperation given to the inmates and staff. He urged the released inmates to be of good behavior and law abiding citizens in the society. DSC
