Many are feared dead in a plane crash this Sunday, February 21, 2021, involving a Nigerin military aircraft enroute Minna, Niger State, killing seven on board.
Niger State have recently come under rising attacks from ‘armed bandits’ with the latest being the abduction of over 42 students, teachers and families of the Government Secondary School (GSS) Kagara.
The crash took place in the nation’s capital, Abuja, according to Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika.
He tweeted early Sunday afternoon from his officil handle, @hadisirika: “A military aircraft King Air 350 has just crashed short of our Abuja runway after reporting engine failure enroute Minna. It appears to be fatal. We should remain calm & wait for the outcome of investigation by the military, while we pray for the departed soul/souls if any”.
Six people on board the aircraft were killed and burnt in the crash, according to the eyewitnesses.
The plane in question is Nigerian Air Force NAF201 B350 Aircraft with seven persons on board including two crew members
This was later confirmed by the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI), Air Vice Marshal Ibikunle Daramola via a tweet: “This is to confirm that a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Beechcraft KingAir B350i aircraft crashed while returning to the Abuja Airport after reporting engine failure enroute Minna. First responders are at the scene. Sadly, all 7 personnel on board died in the crash.”
Daramola said the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal Oladayo Amao, has ordered an immediate investigation into the incident.
He however, urged the public to remain calm & await the outcome of investigation, the CAS, on behalf of all NAF personnel, commiserates with the families of the deceased.
