The candidate that Nigerians should vote as president of the nation must have the following qualities:
- A strong visionary that has good plans for the country’s future.
- An ability to put his times in the perspective of history, effective communication skills.
- Crisis management skills, good character and integrity.
All Nigerians have different ideas about the importance that character plays in the job performance of the President. Considering all of the hats that a President must wear, perhaps the symbolic role that the President plays is most affected by character.
The Presidents must signify what Nigerian citizens believe to be the essence of their country. He must represent what is valued now and in the past. More importantly, embody the direction of the Country’s future.
A wise president knows how to make out right from wrong. He knows how to make the right decisions. He shows maturity in the mind. His words provide power and enlightenment to all.
A president of a nation has the boldness to execute the decisions that he believes are right. He’s not afraid to stand and fight for righteousness for the sake of his countrymen.
An effective president of a nation understands what the citizens are going through. He can feel the sufferings of the oppressed and poor people. He is not arrogant, rather he’s gentle and uplifting to people who are suffering from misery and pain.
A good president of a nation, admits his mistakes and weaknesses. He also acknowledges that he’s not good at everything. That is why he leaves the other tasks to the other branches of the government, such as the legislative and judiciary bodies.
An effective president upholds truth and integrity. He preserves the trust and confidence given to him by the people. And of course, he doesn’t loot the funds of the nation.
A strong president is not a tool to be used by cabals. His actions are not non-discriminatory or the product of impartial decisions. He’s not manipulated by dictatorship or cabals who are thirsty for the power and wealth of a nation.
A good president of the nation should understand that he is the leader of the nation. When the nation falls, he acknowledges his responsibility rather than blame his subordinates. He recognizes himself as the father of the entire nation. Hence, he treats the local government leaders as his children, give them Autonomous power and take responsibility for helping them whenever they are facing problems.
The above qualities of an effective president are what Nigerians needs come 2023. This may sound too idealistic, but I believe that we can still find one among Nigerians or characteristic in a person who will be worthy to become the Nigeria president.
