In a significant boost to infrastructural development in Benue State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has gifted a flyover at Wurukum in Makurdi to Governor Hyacinth Alia as a mark of appreciation for his unwavering commitment to road development and good governance.
This was revealed by the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, during an official visit to the state on Sunday, September 14, 2025.
Speaking at the site of the ongoing road and flyover construction, Umahi praised Governor Alia’s intervention on federal roads, stating that the federal government was highly impressed by his efforts.

Umahi said, “we are very pleased with your commitment to the people of Benue State, and your intervention on our federal roads. We keep saying that the federal government cannot construct all the federal roads. So, when I get to a state and a Governor is doing such intervention, it shows the love he has for his people.”

According to Umahi, President Tinubu directed that the flyover project be added as a personal gift to Governor Alia for his performance. “This flyover was never in the plan and budget for this road. But it is a gift from Mr. President to Governor Hyacinth Alia. It is a gift he has asked me to give to you,” he said.
The Minister further highlighted that the Makurdi–Ninth Mile road project, which stretches across Benue and Enugu States, covers a massive 520 kilometers—260 kilometers each way within Benue alone. The project is being funded by the China Eximbank at an estimated cost of about $950 million.
“When we talk about legacy projects, Your Excellency, there is no section in any state that is up to 520km. So, you really came in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. So, you are a lucky Governor,” Umahi added.
He acknowledged that Governor Alia had already paid compensation to property owners affected by the construction, thereby ensuring unhindered progress. “This is very commendable. It shows your commitment for this project. It shows your support and love for Mr. President,” he said.

Senator Umahi emphasized the economic benefits the project will bring not only to Benue and Enugu States but also to the entire region. “This project alone is going to be a catalyst for the economic revolution in both Benue, Enugu State, and the entire regions. So, we really appreciate Mr. President.”
He expressed his appreciation to Governor Alia for prioritising infrastructure and the welfare of his people. Stating, “thank you again for the infrastructural development, especially the roads you are constructing and rehabilitating in the state. Thank you for caring for your people. Governance is tough but with the hand of God upon you, you are going to be remembered at the end of this journey.”
