The Ogun State Police Command has strengthened its security network with the commissioning of one new Area Command, two Divisional Headquarters, one Police Post, and multiple operational assets, marking a major boost in grassroots policing and rapid response capability across the state.
According to a press statement issued by DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the Police Public Relations Officer of Ogun State. This milestone was achieved through the collaborative support of government, traditional institutions, corporate bodies, and local communities.
The Executive Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, CON, represented by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, commissioned the Ijebu Igbo Area Command and its Divisional Headquarters. The ceremony, attended by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Olatokunbo Joseph Talabi, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, numerous traditional rulers, community leaders, and other dignitaries, recognized the pivotal role of stakeholders in realizing the project. The Orimolusi of Ijebu Igbo, HRH Alayeluwa Oba Lawrence Jayeoba Adebajo, OJUROMI VI, was commended for mobilizing community support, while a patrol van was donated to strengthen operational efficiency.
The Ijebu Igbo Area Command now comprises five Divisions: Ijebu Igbo, Ago Iwoye, Awa Ijebu, Oru Ijebu, and Atan Ijebu enhancing operational coordination, intelligence sharing, and police visibility. Stakeholder contributions ensured the project was delivered efficiently and is already improving security and community engagement in the axis.
Earlier, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, commissioned the Afon Divisional Headquarters under the Imeko Area Command, expanding police presence and operational capacity. The ceremony, attended by Oba Benjamin Olunite Oyeditan (Onimeko of Imeko), Oba Abdul-Rasheed Adewaare Akande (Obaladi of Afon Land), community leaders, and local government representatives, included the handover of a patrol van to support field operations.
In a separate commissioning, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, also commissioned the Japara Police Post in the presence of the SSG and other dignitaries. The post will extend security coverage to underserved communities, enhance rapid response, improve community policing, and strengthen intelligence gathering, fostering trust and closer engagement between residents and the police.
The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), led by State Chairman Venerable Samson Popoola, participated in all commissioning ceremonies, exemplifying the strong partnership between the police and stakeholders that has been critical to these successes.
CP Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, expressed gratitude to the Ogun State Government, traditional institutions, corporate organizations, and all stakeholders for their unwavering support. He urges officers at all times to uphold professionalism and ensure that the new facilities and assets are deployed effectively for the protection of lives and property, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to proactive, intelligence-led, and community-focused policing.
