Governor Chukwuma Soludo has indicated that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) may not field a presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections, opting instead to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The governor disclosed this on Thursday during a live television interview in Awka, where he reaffirmed his backing for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
Soludo described the President as a political ally and maintained that his position is consistent with APGA’s strategy in the 2023 elections.
“Tinubu is my friend, and I want him to win a second term. I am unapologetic about that,” he said.
He explained that APGA did not present a presidential candidate in 2023 and instead aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the national level.
According to him, the decision was a deliberate move aimed at fostering governance collaboration rather than undermining party identity.
The former Central Bank governor stated that his administration has sustained a working relationship with the federal government since 2023.
He added that the support from the presidency has contributed to development efforts in Anambra State.
Soludo further noted that APGA’s focus remains strengthening its influence at state and regional levels while supporting a candidate it considers capable at the national stage.
However, the governor’s stance has reportedly raised concerns among some party stakeholders, who fear it could trigger internal disagreements ahead of the 2027 elections.
Despite this, Soludo insisted that the position reflects a pragmatic approach to politics and governance in Nigeria’s evolving democratic landscape.
