The Commander Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT, Commodore A Adams-Aliu on Wednesday 13 May 2026 paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Alaiyeluwa Oba Rilwanu Babatunde Osuolale Aremu Akiolu at his palace in Isale Eko in preparation for the forthcoming 70th Anniversary celebration of the Nigerian Navy.
The visit was to formally invite the revered traditional ruler to participate in the landmark anniversary events and to seek his royal support for the celebration. Commodore Adams-Aliu noted that the anniversary represents a significant milestone in the history of the Nigerian Navy, highlighting decades of dedication to maritime security, national defence and regional stability.
He emphasised the importance of continued collaboration between the Navy and traditional institutions, particularly in coastal communities where maritime activities plays a vital role in economic development and security.
In his response, His Royal Majesty Oba of Lagos, Commended the Nigerian Navy for its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial waters and ensuring maritime safety. He expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed his support for the Navy’s initiatives, particularly those aimed at strengthening security and fostering unity within the maritime environment.
The forthcoming Nigerian Navy 70th Anniversary is scheduled from 29 May – 4 June and it will feature a series of commemorative activities including parades, International Fleet Review at the waterfront in Eko Atlantic, community outreach programmes and events designed to showcase the Navy’s operational achievements and historical legacy.
