The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has deepened its drive toward food security and economic empowerment following a new partnership between the recently established NAF Farms and Agro-Allied Services and the Bank of Agriculture (BOA) aimed at expanding agricultural financing and boosting productivity across military farming communities.
The collaboration marks another major milestone in the Air Force’s growing non-kinetic strategy to support national development, tackle food insecurity and address some of the socio-economic factors fueling insecurity across the country.
The partnership emerged from a high-level meeting between the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of Agriculture, Mr. Ayo Sotinrin, and the leadership of NAF Farms headed by Air Vice Marshal Kotun.
During the meeting, both organisations agreed on key areas of cooperation designed to strengthen agricultural production within the Nigerian Air Force farming ecosystem through improved financing, mechanisation and sustainable investments.
Under the arrangement, the Bank of Agriculture will provide concessional financing to support the procurement of quality agricultural inputs including improved seedlings, fertilisers, crop protection products and soil enhancement materials.
The partnership will also support access to modern farming equipment such as tractors, irrigation systems, harvesters and processing machines aimed at improving productivity and strengthening food supply chains across NAF agricultural projects nationwide.
Officials said both institutions also agreed to establish flexible loan repayment structures tailored to agricultural production cycles to ensure that repayments align with harvest periods and reduce financial pressure on beneficiaries.
The initiative is expected to maximise the use of available Nigerian Air Force land for agricultural purposes while leveraging the security advantage provided by military formations to encourage safe and sustainable agricultural investments.
In addition, serving personnel, retired officers, women officers and spouses participating in agricultural ventures are expected to benefit from dedicated financial incentives and support mechanisms to be coordinated through the NAF Microfinance Bank.
According to officials, the programme reflects the Nigerian Air Force’s broader commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach to national security by promoting economic inclusion, job creation and social stability.
The Air Force noted that agriculture remains a critical tool for empowering communities, improving livelihoods and reducing vulnerabilities that often contribute to insecurity and social unrest.
Observers say the initiative represents a strategic shift in the military’s role beyond traditional security operations, positioning the Nigerian Air Force as an active contributor to economic resilience and sustainable development.
The collaboration further highlights growing inter-agency partnerships aimed at strengthening food production, enhancing rural development and supporting long-term peace and stability across Nigeria.
