The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the suspension of senior lawyer Mike Ozekhome from the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
The decision was reached at the committee’s 173rd General Meeting held on June 23, 2026.
According to the LPPC, the suspension was imposed in line with the provisions of the guidelines governing the conferment and regulation of the SAN rank.
The committee said the action will remain in effect pending the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings currently before its Disciplinary and Ethics Sub-Committee, as well as other related proceedings.
The development was disclosed in a statement signed by Kabir Akanbi, who serves as Secretary of the LPPC.
The committee explained that the suspension was necessary to preserve the integrity, dignity and prestige associated with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
It stated that Ozekhome is barred from presenting or describing himself as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria while the disciplinary matters remain unresolved.
The LPPC noted that the restriction would remain in place until a final determination is reached on the issues under review.
The committee reiterated its commitment to maintaining high standards of ethics, professionalism and discipline within the legal profession.
It added that safeguarding public confidence in the SAN rank remains a key responsibility of the committee.
