The Nigerian Navy has commissioned a Special Intervention Quick Impact Project comprising an industrial solar-powered borehole, a 60,000-litre overhead tank and a water reticulation system at Esie Kingdom, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, on Thursday, 30 July 2026.
The intervention was executed in honour Rear Admiral Ibrahim Mohammed-Katsina (Retired), as a way of giving back to the hometown of his late wife, Princess Barrister Basirat Babalola Mohammed-Katsina and the people of Esie Kingdom in Irepodun Local Government Area.
In his address, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas (Admiralty Medal), represented by the Director of Veteran Affairs, Rear Admiral Raheem Taofeeq, stated that the project is part of the Nigerian Navy’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme under the Chief of the Naval Staff Special Intervention Quick Impact Project. He noted that the initiative also supports the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and serves as a means through which the Nigerian Navy recognizes and honours its distinguished senior officers.
Speaking at the event, the Special Guest of Honour, His Royal Majesty, Alhaji Yakub Agboola Ibrahim Babalola, Egunjobi II Elesie of Esie Kingdom, commended the Chief of the Naval Staff for executing the milestone project. He described the intervention as a significant step toward addressing the portable water challenges facing the Esie community, adding that it would greatly enhance hygiene and sanitation standards among residents and families.
The project facilitator, Rear Admiral Ibrahim Mohammed-Katsina, expressed profound appreciation to the Chief of the Naval Staff for providing the platform for the intervention and the opportunity to contribute to the development of Esie Kingdom, the hometown of his late wife.
The historic commissioning ceremony brought together distinguished personalities, including the Chief of Staff, Kwara State Government, council of Chiefs and senior military officers.
