Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged Osun voters to elect the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, saying an APC government would strengthen the state’s connection with the Federal Government.
Akpabio, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, made the call on Thursday at the APC campaign finale at Freedom Park, Osogbo, ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
He said an APC victory would position Osun to benefit from federal infrastructure and economic development programmes, urging voters to “choose wisely” and connect the state to the centre.
The Senate President also assured voters of security during the election, saying Tinubu remained committed to democracy and would not allow anyone to undermine the electoral process.
Akpabio urged voters to remain peaceful, warning supporters not to retaliate if provoked. He said, “social media are not the same thing as polling units,” urging residents to focus on voting.
APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, formally presented the party’s flag and symbol to Oyebamiji and called on Osun residents to vote for the party’s candidate.
Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, promised to prioritise the welfare of residents if elected, saying, “Governance is not about dancing. No more dancing in Osun. It’s time for work.”
He said his administration would focus on delivering tangible results, stressing that his mandate was to “touch the lives of the people.”
Former Governor Bisi Akande and Senator Iyiola Omisore also urged voters to support the APC, while governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos and Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo attended the rally.
Other dignitaries included Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru and other party leaders, who joined the final campaign push for Oyebamiji ahead of the August 15 election.
