Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have neutralised terrorists and intercepted a suspected courier conveying 180 explosive materials to terrorist elements in the North-West.
The development occurred on Friday, August 14, 2026, during separate operations by troops of Sector 2 in Zamfara State, as the military intensified efforts to disrupt terrorist activities and their logistics networks.
During an offensive clearance operation around Garin Kaso in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area, troops engaged terrorists in a fierce firefight, neutralising two and recovering two rifles, two magazines, nine rounds of ammunition and two motorcycles.
The troops subsequently came under an attempted ambush by another group of terrorists operating from concealed positions. The soldiers fought through the attack, inflicting further casualties and forcing the surviving terrorists to flee.
The exact number of casualties from the second encounter could not be immediately confirmed, although reports from surrounding communities indicated that wounded terrorists and bodies of some of their colleagues were evacuated by the fleeing group.
In a separate operation the same day, troops conducting routine snap checks intercepted a suspected arms and explosives courier, identified as 57-year-old Sani Umar. A search of his vehicle uncovered 180 units of 20mm Super Power explosives allegedly being transported from Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara to suspected terrorists in Jibia, Katsina State.
The suspect, vehicle and recovered explosives have been taken into custody for further investigation as the military moves to disrupt the supply networks sustaining terrorist operations in the region.
The Theatre Command said the operations demonstrate the sustained offensive posture of Operation FANSAN YAMMA and its determination to deny terrorists freedom of action across the North-West.
