The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has disclosed that its official X account was subjected to an attempted unauthorised compromise, prompting the activation of cybersecurity measures to secure the platform.

The Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, describing the incident as a cybersecurity matter.

Uba said technical measures had been activated to prevent further unauthorised access, while efforts were ongoing to fully restore control of the account.

He warned members of the public, the media and other stakeholders against relying on suspicious or misleading content that may be published through the account during the period.

The Defence Headquarters assured Nigerians that the incident was being handled and that efforts remained focused on protecting its information platforms and maintaining the integrity of official communications.

The DHQ urged the public to rely on its verified accounts on other platforms, including its Facebook page, Defence Headquarters Nigeria, Instagram account @defenceheadquarters and its official WhatsApp Channel for updates.

Uba reaffirmed the military’s commitment to maintaining high standards of information security and providing Nigerians with accurate, timely and credible information on the activities and operations of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
