Veteran tourism journalist, editor and broadcaster, Frank Meke, is set to receive the Golden Icon of Tourism Journalism and Destination Storytelling Award at the fifth edition of the Golden Prestigious Icons Awards 2026.
Meke, who is also the convener of Cre8tive 9JA, will be honoured for his longstanding contributions to tourism journalism, destination storytelling and the promotion of Nigeria’s cultural heritage.
The recognition is expected to highlight his efforts in using journalism and broadcasting to showcase Nigeria’s tourism assets, festivals, culture and destinations to audiences within and outside the country.
Over the years, Meke has worked across leading media platforms, including Vanguard Newspapers and The Sun Newspapers, where he reported extensively on tourism, culture and destination development.
Through Cre8tive 9JA, he has continued to promote conversations around Nigeria’s tourism potential while supporting destination marketing and greater visibility for the country’s cultural and tourism attractions.
The awards ceremony, themed “Beyond Boundaries,” is scheduled for Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the Lagos Oriental Hotel, Lekki. The red carpet will begin at 3pm, while the main event is slated for 5pm.
The organisers said Meke’s recognition reflects the impact of his decades of journalism, broadcasting and destination storytelling in advancing tourism visibility and strengthening public appreciation of Nigeria’s rich cultural and tourism heritage.
