The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council has said its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, would reintroduce fuel subsidy under a transparent system to ease pressure on poor Nigerians and boost production if elected president in 2027.

The council’s Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, stated this in Abuja while receiving the leadership of the Grassroots Mobilisation Network (GMN), which is campaigning for Atiku ahead of the January 16, 2027 presidential election.

Ologbondiyan said the former vice president had a clear position on fuel subsidy and criticised what he described as changing positions among other presidential candidates.

“Atiku is going to bring back subsidy in a transparent and well-managed manner that will directly benefit the poor and stimulate production,” he said.

The GMN National Coordinator, Sadiq Abubakar Adamu Lwafu, said the group had begun plans for nationwide mobilisation in support of Atiku and the ADC ahead of the 2027 election.

Lwafu also criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu over economic hardship and insecurity, alleging that Nigerians were facing worsening living conditions and restrictions on democratic space.

“The hardship is too much. Nigerians are now living in fear of insecurity,” Lwafu said, adding that the group would work to remove the All Progressives Congress (APC) through the ballot.

He described the ADC as a political platform with experienced leaders, naming David Mark, Rotimi Amaechi, Tunde Ogbeha, Rauf Aregbesola, Dele Momodu and other prominent politicians among those associated with the party.

Ologbondiyan, in his response, described Atiku as a “Pan-Nigerian leader”, arguing that his political associations, business interests and family ties reflected Nigeria’s ethnic, religious and regional diversity.

He accused the APC of exploiting the country’s ethnic and religious divisions for political advantage and said Atiku’s economic programme offered a better response to Nigeria’s challenges, while the ADC-PCC pledged to work with grassroots organisations ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
