President Muhammadu Buhari has again summoned the Service Chiefs and other major stakeholders in the country’s security architecture to a meeting over the nation’s intractable security challenges.
The meeting which is taking place inside the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, BusinessDay gathered is a fallout of the last week’s Council of State meeting, which deliberated on the insecurity ravaging the country.
This is as the Federal government is said to have intensified, behind the scenes moves to rescue the about 68 passengers abducted inside the Abuja-Kaduna train.
It was reliably gathered that the meeting is expected to review the progress on the rescue plans
Recall that Jigawa Governor, Abubakar Badaru had hinted that the President will meet with the security Chiefs, but could not provide further details.
The President while also speaking on the security situation in the country, at the All Progressive Congress (APC) National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Wednesday, had warned of “tougher security measures in restive parts of the country, with a review of operations and strategy”, even as he reassured Nigerians that “the efforts that resulted in relative peace in South-South, and rescuing of North-East from the hold of terrorists will be ramped up”.
The President noted that the major security challenges have remained in the North Central and North West, saying, “We are going to be very tough.’’
The Security Council is also expected to receive full briefings and review details of the Air Force jet that crash-landed in Kaduna on Tuesday, according to an inside source.
The crash which is the fifth to have taken place within one year had taken place in Kaduna, whose airport was recently invaded by bandits, shortly after the attacks on a train that was heading to Kaduna from Abuja.
