Panic gripped residents and commuters along the busy Mararaba-Nyanya bypass on Monday afternoon as an explosion rocked the area, leaving one person injured.

The incident, which occurred at approximately 2:50 PM, prompted a swift response from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command.

According to a press release on Monday, signed by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the Command received a distress report and immediately deployed its Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit to the scene.

The area was quickly cordoned off to ensure public safety and allow for a thorough forensic investigation.

“One male victim was rescued at the scene and has been taken to the hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention,” the statement confirmed.

SP Adeh assured the public that there is no immediate cause for alarm, adding that the police have commenced a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact cause and nature of the explosion.

While the motive behind the blast remains unclear, security operatives are currently analysing debris and other materials collected from the scene as part of the forensic process.

The FCT Police have called on residents to remain calm, be vigilant, and report any suspicious persons or activities.
