As the January 30, 2026 deadline draws near, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has intensified its nationwide electronic membership registration and revalidation exercise, projecting a combined intake of 1.35 million new members in Oyo and Jigawa states.
In Oyo State, the ruling party has set a target of no fewer than 350,000 registrants, while the Jigawa chapter is aiming to enrol one million members, underscoring the APC’s broader strategy to deepen its grassroots presence and strengthen its digital membership database ahead of future electoral contests.
The e-registration exercise, which is being conducted across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), is designed to harmonise records of existing members while capturing new entrants into a centralised digital platform. Party leaders say the initiative will enhance internal administration, strategic planning and electoral mobilisation.
Speaking on the progress of the exercise in Oyo State, the APC Publicity Secretary, Mr. Olawale Sadare, said the party remained confident of meeting its target despite initial logistical and technical challenges.
According to him, sustained engagement by party leaders and stakeholders across the state has helped stabilise the process and drive increased participation.
“Our members demonstrated uncommon commitment by working round the clock to resolve early challenges and ensure a smooth registration process,” Sadare said. “The stakeholders’ meetings held across the 14 federal constituencies were particularly successful and reflected the renewed energy within the party.”
He added that the registration exercise was central to the party’s ambition to significantly expand its electoral base in Oyo State, with a target of at least a 40 per cent increase over the 449,884 votes secured by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.
“By the close of the exercise on January 30, we are optimistic that APC in Oyo State will surpass 350,000 genuine members. This strength will be strategically deployed towards reclaiming the state in the 2027 general elections,” he said.
Sadare urged eligible residents to take advantage of the ongoing registration, noting that the exercise is open to Nigerians aged 18 and above with valid National Identification Numbers (NIN) and Permanent Voter Cards (PVC). He added that registration centres have been established across the 33 local government areas of the state to ensure wide participation.
In Jigawa State, the APC has also expressed strong optimism about achieving its one million member target.
The state chairman of the party, Mr. Aminu Sani, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Dutse, noting that extensive mobilisation efforts were underway across the state.
He said the party had provided critical logistical support, including devices and technical training, to ensure a seamless registration process in all local government areas.
“All the 27 local government chapters are actively involved. We supported the procurement of tablets and computers to make the exercise hitch-free,” Sani said.
Providing an update on the exercise, he revealed that more than 89,000 members had already been successfully captured on the party’s digital platform as of the previous day.
Sani called on party supporters and interested residents to register without delay, stressing that the exercise would officially end on January 30, 2026. He also encouraged eligible citizens to participate in the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), describing it as critical to strengthening democratic participation.
“Your Permanent Voter Card is your right. Without a PVC, you cannot vote,” he said, urging residents who have relocated to update their voter details and newly eligible youths to register promptly.
Earlier, Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Umar Namadi, had appealed to residents to actively participate in the CVR exercise, expressing concern over persistently low voter turnout in the state and across much of the northern region.
