Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, says the All Progressives Congress (APC) will adopt a consensus-driven approach in selecting its candidates for the 2027 general elections in the state.
The governor made this known on Sunday while speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting of the party held at the International Culture and Event Centre (The Dome) in Akure, as political activities ahead of 2027 begin to intensify.
Aiyedatiwa dismissed claims that he had anointed or promised tickets to any aspirant, insisting that no individual had been given preferential treatment for elective offices.
He said it was necessary to clarify his position amid growing political speculation, noting that misinformation and unfounded assumptions were already creating unnecessary tension within the party.
The governor cautioned party members, particularly aspirants seeking tickets for the House of Assembly and the National Assembly, against spreading rumours or engaging in actions capable of weakening party unity.
According to him, party leaders will collectively play a role in the selection of candidates, stressing that the consensus arrangement is aimed at ensuring stability, inclusiveness and cohesion within the APC.
Aiyedatiwa warned that personal ambition-driven actions could embolden factions and undermine the progress already achieved by the party in Ondo State.
He highlighted the level of unity within the APC, noting that most of the state’s National Assembly members were present at the meeting, while those absent formally communicated their inability to attend due to official engagements.
Reaffirming the dominance of the APC in Ondo State politics, the governor urged members to work together to sustain the party’s strength and continue building the state through a shared vision.
He also underscored the importance of the ongoing APC e-registration exercise, disclosing that Ondo State had recorded 128,770 registered members so far, ranking third in the South-west, and assured members that challenges related to National Identification Number registration and logistics were being addressed.
