In its fight against Terrorism, and oil theft across the country, the Military said it neutralized 358 terrorists and arrested 431 suspected insurgents in January 2025.

The military spokesman, Major General Edward Buba, in a press statement said, 249 kidnapped hostages were also successfully rescued.

Buba, disclosed that security forces also cracked down on oil theft in the South-South region, preventing losses estimated at over ₦2.69 billion.

“Troops intercepted 2,732,038 litres of stolen crude oil, 42,515 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), 200 litres of Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK), and 2,250 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), among other items,” the statement reads.

The Spokesman said, “In the ongoing counter-terrorism operations, troops recovered 370 weapons and 4,972 rounds of ammunition. The haul included 105 AK-47 rifles, 25 locally fabricated guns, 32 dane guns, 23 pump-action guns, 3,066 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 758 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 980 cartridges, 72 assorted arms, and 500 rounds of mixed ammunition.”

While reaffirming the military’s commitment to ensuring national security, Buba beckoned on the citizens collaboration to help create a safe environment.

“Troops continue to fight admirably in defeating terrorists and their cohorts across the country. we remain resolute in ensuring the safety and security of Nigerians,” he concluded.
