The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commenced an investigation into reports of alleged civilian casualties following an airstrike in Jilli.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on April 11, 2026, is said to have affected a local market, raising concerns over possible civilian harm.
In response, the Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Kelvin Aneke, directed the immediate deployment of the Civilian Harm Accident and Investigation Cell to the area for a fact-finding mission.
The Air Force said it treats all allegations of civilian harm with seriousness, stressing that the protection of civilian lives remains a core priority in its operations.
According to the Service, the investigation will involve collaboration with relevant authorities and community representatives to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
NAF also reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, accountability and transparency in the conduct of air operations across the country.
While the probe is ongoing, the Air Force urged members of the public and the media to avoid speculation and allow due process to take its course.
It assured Nigerians that every credible concern will be thoroughly examined, as it continues efforts to balance national security operations with the protection of innocent lives.
