Navy boosts officers’ welfare, provides accommodation facilities

In an efforts to enhance the living and working conditions of its officers, the Nigerian Navy has commissioned several facilities in Ebubu-Eleme and Borokiri, Port Harcourt.

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, spearheaded the commissioning on Wednesday. He said the event is part Navy’s End of Year activities and commitment to creating a homogenous and willing naval workforce.

The newly commissioned facilities include: ParadeGround and Pavilion, Junior Rates’ Mess, Senior Rates’ Mess, Headquarters Naval Training Command Officers’ Mess, Two Ratings Accommodation Blocks, each comprising 47 rooms, A Block of 56 one-bedroom flat apartments

Speaking at the event, Vice Admiral Ogalla acknowledged the persistent challenge of inadequate accommodation within the force and reaffirmed his commitment to addressing the issue.

“We are rehabilitating and bringing back abandoned accommodations to become useful for us because we have a very serious challenge of inadequate accommodation.

We have put a lot of our resources to make sure that whichever one we can do is done properly, in addition to the new ones that we are building in Port Harcourt and other areas,” he stated.

The Chief of the Naval Staff further emphasized that the welfare of officers and ratings remains a top priority, highlighting that decent and secure accommodations are essential for fostering a motivated and operationally ready naval force.
